Overview

Comcast NBCUniversal LIFT Labs Accelerator, powered by Techstars (a trusted leader in the startup ecosystem), offers programmed talks, mentor sessions with Comcast NBCUniversal employees and partners, plus events and other educational resources designed to help the resident entrepreneurs launch and scale their businesses.

LIFT Labs engaged Figure 8 Thinking prior to launching to better understand workspace design that would optimize the entrepreneurs’ productivity. Figure 8 Thinking conducted a 2-month qualitative research process to understand future-state needs for the Life Labs resident entrepreneurs.

Goal

Produce a distinctive and forward-thinking residential accelerator program for entrepreneurs.

Approach

The 2-month engagement began with establishing a foundation in understanding trends in digitizing workspaces. This involved interviews with heads of other accelerators and incubators to understand meaningful trends specifically in the technology and IoT space.

Additional research and interviews helped uncover trends in workspace design from the perspective of social connection and with a holistic lens to include functional, social, and emotional dimensions.

Using a design-thinking approach, Figure 8 Thinking helped LIFT Labs create a workspace where technologies were integrated into an environment that would help ensure that LIFT Lab entrepreneurs would co-create, play and launch meaningful companies.

Output

Figure 8 Thinking produced a visually appealing action plan for experiential programming at LIFT Labs. Highlights of this program included opportunities for corporate partnerships, sensorial space design, and community connection by leveraging the Comcast media platform.

Today, LIFT Labs stands out as an accelerator partner with Techstars and internal Comcast executives.
